MESSAGE FROM THE HON. MARK COURE MP, Minister for Multiculturalism 

International Translation Day 

This Friday (30 September) is International Translation Day, where we acknowledge and celebrate those who share their mastery of different languages to enable others to communicate more freely. 

I have an incredibly fond appreciation for translators and interpreters because of the unique skills they have, and of the invaluable service they provide in helping people overcome language barriers. 

We are an incredibly diverse society and more and more people from around the world are wanting to come to call NSW home. While people try to immerse themselves in their new home, sometimes they struggle to access services or understand what is going on—this is where translators and interpreters are incredibly valuable. 

The theme of this year’s International Translation Day is A world without barriers: The role of language professionals in building culture, understanding and lasting peace. Both the NSW Government and I aspire to create a society where barriers are completely removed and people can access the services they need no matter the language they speak. The key to achieving this rests within our translating and interpreting ranks. 

I am proud to say that the NSW Government has the strongest translating and interpreting cohort in the country. Each and every one of them diligently serve the people of NSW to ensure we can communicate with everyone. 

To all translators and interpreters in NSW, I want to say thank you for choosing such a noble profession and sharing your language skills with us to create a world without barriers.
