CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Fairfield City Council is calling for applications for the next Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC). Applications for the Multicultural Advisory Committee are now open, and close on Wednesday 14 October 2015.
The Committee comprises of up to 14 members who are selected on the basis of experience working with the multicultural local community. MAC provides informed strategic advice and makes recommendations to Council on issues affecting refugees, migrants and the new arrival communities in Fairfield City.
Pauline Phayvanh Phoumindr, current MAC member says, "Being part of the MAC, I have been able to voice my opinions about the issues that affect my community [the Lao Community] and Australian community at large. I also learn a lot from other MAC members. I feel that at MAC we can think global and act local."
As a member of the Multicultural Advisory Committee, volunteers will be able to put their experience and local connections to use by contributing to Council services and policies and providing advice to other local information providers to make them more effective and accessible to our multicultural community.
“The MAC has provided opportunities for groups within Fairfield to better understand each other and build on celebrating diversity. I strongly encourage new representatives to join and participate in the democracy that Fairfield Council encourages” said Gary Cachia, resident and MAC member.
The next term for MAC will commence in February 2016. Membership is open to all community members in Fairfield City from all backgrounds.
