The excitement at Sydney Showground is palpable as thousands of animals, exhibitors, staff and volunteers prepare for the gates to the 2017 Sydney Royal Easter Show to be thrown open from 6 April 2017.

Sydney media were treated to a preview of what lies in store for the next 14 days including an abundance of free entertainment designed to be enjoyed by a broad variety of showgoers.
General Manager, Agriculture and Sydney Royal Easter Show, Murray Wilton, said the Show has never been better.
“There has never been more value for money at the Show and today we were delighted to showcase a range of exciting new activities as well as the old favourites people look forward to seeing each year,” Mr Wilton said.

A new activity for younger showgoers in 2017 is ‘Little Hands on the Land’ – a working, but kid-sized farm designed to help children learn about agriculture from crop to shop.
“This free activity involves nine stations where children can visit chook, cow and sheep sheds, dig up veggie patches and be part of an outback mini-tractor pull,” Mr Wilton said.
“At the end of the display, kids can trade their collected produce for farm dollars at the Farmer’s Market and spend it on real items at the supermarket.”

The much-loved favourite, The Man From Snowy River spectacular is back and reworked in 2017 to re-tell the Banjo Patterson classic as well as snippets of Clancy of the Overflow. With whip-cracking, thundering herds of cattle, and horses, this will again be a chance to see stockmen work cattle in the main arena.
At the Farmyard Nursery patrons can learn about farmyard animals – from their origins to what the animals eat. Come and see over 800 free-range animals, including playful ducklings on their waterslide, fawns, piglets, geese, donkeys and much more.

The District Exhibits are also back in 2017 and will again showcase the finest produce from regions across NSW and parts of southern Queensland in an artful display.
“With more than 50,000 items of local fruit, vegetables and grains selected from the five districts of Southern, Northern, Western and Central NSW and South East Queensland, and arranged in an aesthetically pleasing display, it’s always a tough decision for the judges to decide the winner,” Mr Wilton said.
“Nothing goes to waste here with all leftover produce collected by OzHarvest.”

A brand new feature this year will be The Stables which will showcase the Show’s finest gourmet food and drink.
“For those looking for a gourmet experience, The Stables is where it’s at,” Mr Wilton said.
“Take a seat in the air-conditioned lounge and try the gourmet food from the pop up restaurant or head to the whisky, gin and rum bar.
“For those looking for something extra you can even get a trim at the barber to smarten up those locks.
“With so many new and old activities this year for all generations, a day out at the Show has much to offer the whole family and we warmly invite you to come and be entertained this Easter holidays.”
